Event Overview
This course is aimed at current and future leaders, specifically non-sworn personnel. This one-week seminar is the first of three parts in the Civilian Leadership Series. This session focuses on team building, enhancing the ability of all employees to motivate, teach and lead each other in a team-oriented manner to achieve maximum performance. Using a combination of dialogue, practical exercises, case study and research, participants will be exposed to a variety of adult learning models to become stronger, more confident leaders.
Daily Topics
Day 1
Supervisor Role Identification and Transition | TCOLE Rules
Role identification and expectations of first line supervisors, along with competencies of excellent supervisors, are covered in this block of instruction. Management, individual and subordinate expectations are all discussed.
Employee Motivation and Counseling
Participants will learn techniques and strategies for counseling with employees and will discuss and understand variables in counseling with employees.Day 2
Followership
Participants will be able to define followership and followership styles. They will learn the ten rules of good followership; define dynamic subordinancy and critical transition for followers.
Accountability
Participants will learn the definition of accountability and discuss types of accountability along with mechanisms of accountability within the law enforcement profession.Day 3
Managing Across Generations
This one-day session will identify the different generations in which employees were raised and the different characteristics specific to that generation; identify the common characteristics of all generations and will learn how to use the six-step approach to manage across the different generations.Day 4
Honoring Boundaries: Prevention of Sexual Harassment
This course will define, identify and evaluate evidence of harassment. Participants will understand the organizational liability and supervisory responsibility; and will be able to develop steps to create an environment necessary to prevent harassment from occurring.
Supervising Difficult People
This session will examine how to supervise difficult people. Participants will learn causes of difficult behavior, different types of employees, management styles, etc.Day 5
Leadership Charisma and Body Language
This course will examine how charismatic management and communication is used to build a team of unity, pride, and purpose within any sized workgroup. Leaders with strong convictions, morals, and passions have been able to invigorate team members to accomplish extraordinary feats. People such as George Washington, Cleopatra, Queen Elizabeth I, Martin Luther King Jr and Sr, Buddha and others on a much smaller scale did not only have intrinsic abilities, but they also developed skills.
